Economics

Road. Rail. Air. Water. Power. Land. Ports. - We’ve got it covered!

Places to work. Opportunities abound for commercial, industrial, and recreational businesses to locate in the Skeena-Nass region. Local and regional governments want to meet you! See our “links” page for connections to the economic development offices of the region.

Places to live. Community abounds in the Skeena-Nass region. There are 29 communities, from small First Nation villages of 100 people to larger centers of 20,000 people. At almost one-fifth of the area of the province and only 60,000 people, there’s lots of room to grow and expand!

See our “links” page for connections to the main communities of the region.

Not Just Hewers of Wood or Drawers of Water

Natural resources themselves do not create an economy. First, someone has to do something with the resource, and someone else has to want to pay for what was done. That’s the traditional model – but there’s another aspect as well: if you are good at what you do with the resource, your knowledge also becomes a resource. SNCIRE wants the communities in the Skeena-Nass region to move beyond “hewing wood”, and even beyond shaping the wood: we think the communities should become destinations for training others in how to create sustainable economies, for ongoing research, and for continuous incubation of new ideas and approaches.
