In 1978, the Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine (RDKS) produced a popular regional resource inventory, in the form of a wall map, that assisted with regional planning and promoted industrial development. The map contained information related to the region including settlements, transportation, land use, relief, mining resources, forest resources, recreation resources, fisheries resources, development potential, population distribution and large-scale insets of the region’s urban centres.
This map is now outdated and no longer in print but the information is still in high demand. The RDKS wishes to produce an updated version that can be used to promote economic development and assist in planning by private interests and public bodies.
SNCIRE is collaborating with the RDKS on this map project and, subject to funding, will build on the work to produce a digital, interactive atlas of resources for Northwest BC extending from Klemtu to the Yukon border and from Haida Gwaii to Granisle.
Benefits
Our aim is to create a valuable regional resource, the Northwest BC Resource Atlas, a regional, digitally accessible atlas that encourages exploration and investment, and inspires new product development.
Benefits include:
Rationale
